my ramblings on inspiration from design, humans, art, the world, and theology
In: General
4 Mar 2009With this post, I relaunch this blog. I’ve struggled over the last few months to determine what it was that I really wanted to write about, what I thought would actually be interesting to read, and what I thought I could bring to the discussion of life, love, liberty, labour, and disco. As I drove home this evening it struck me: what I want to do with this blog is to stimulate discussion around the idea of “inspiration”. Whether that inspiration comes in the form of visual design, art, new marketing or business strategies, management techniques, or theology - I hope that what I can bring to this blog is something that percolates your senses & makes you think that things are not necessarily as black and white as they may have appeared before.
Why do I think inspiration is so important? Great question.
I’ve been fortunate in life to have been inspired by a lot of different people (apologies to many others I didn’t link to). Even those who I would categorize more in this category, I’ve learned something from. To be fair, probably every relationship I’ve had in the work place, or in life, has shaped me in some unique way; and I realize that where and who I am today is because of the ways that other’s have inspired me in the past.
Inspiration is what sets apart the leaders from the followers. If you can inspire someone - an employee, a colleague, your boss - a child, a spouse, a parent - a budding artist, a struggling musician, or a student struggling with defining their own epistemology - you have the chance to change the future. You have the chance to take that person and set them on a plane higher than they could have achieved without. This is why successful business people have mentors & coaches. It’s not only about learning something new from someone who has been there before - its about being inspired to do something new where no one has been before.
I don’t claim to be that inspirational - although throughout my life I think I’ve had my moments - so that’s where you come in. I want your comments and discussion to spur on further debate and thought. If you have a suggestion for a post, let me know.
Some posts may be a single question, others, a diatribe that makes you think I’m a few bricks short of a load, but I hope that somewhere on these virtual pages you become inspired to strive harder and search deeper into things than you have in the past.
Cheers,
Braden
